TRAVEL TIPS
Travel Like an expert
It may be your first married journey together, but your
honeymoon travels do not need to be full of rookie mistakes.
Here are some ways to make the most of your honeymoon
resources and a few tips for traveling smart.
Take Care of Home Long Before
You Go Away
Be sure and plan early for household responsibilities
that need to be taken care of in your absence. If you
will be gone for weeks, put your mail on hold with the
post office or have a friend or family member gather it
for you. Reserve a place for any pets that need to be
cared for, whether it’s with friends or a trusted
vet. Don’t let a last minute scramble to take care
of your home and responsibilities carry stress over to
your honeymoon.
Shout the Good News
You are on your honeymoon and just about all the world
loves a couple in love. Hotels, restaurants and even airlines
are famous for spoiling honeymooners with freebies and
upgrades, so be sure they get the message. Let every concierge,
host, flight attendant, tour guide and booking agent you
meet along the honeymoon highway know “It’s
Our Honeymoon!!” You never know what their excitement
for you could turn into…free champagne…a better
table…a bigger suite. Anything is possible when
you’re in love.
Pack Lightly, But Well
Heavy, awkward bags are always a travel downer. Save your
back for more exciting honeymoon activities then lugging
around tons of ridiculously over-packed bags!
Make your travels a more pleasant experience by packing
carefully in advance. You want to bring everything you
need and dress to each occasion. Then again, you don’t
want to over pack, risking clumsy, embarrassing travel
moments. And don’t forget, you’ll want a little
extra room for gifts and souvenirs.
Enjoy Getting There
You’ve seen it a million times. A vacationing couple
bickering over a map on the side of a busy, tourist-covered
street. Whether in a car or on foot, navigating with another
person is one of the easy roads to high frustration. So
what do you do to stay cool as you travel and adventure
together? Stay patient, share the map and keep your sense
of humor. Remember, there is no buried treasure or ticking
bomb anywhere you are trying to go, so have fun and enjoy
the process of getting there. If tensions start to run
high, take a break. Get a drink, go for a swim, find a
snack bar or do anything to make sure your team travels
stay light-hearted and calm.
Don’t Forget to Rest
You may be crossing many time zones to get to your honeymoon
destination or you traveling just a few hours from home,
but good rest is still essential to a great time. Many
honeymooners will be arriving straight from a big, stress-
and family-filled wedding day and exhaustion is normal.
Don’t be shy about getting some extra hours of sleep
in the arms of your baby, napping by the beach or lounging
for hours on end in the pool. It’s tempting to jump
in and see all the sites right away, but take time to
relax as well. Make sure you are able to bring your energy
and sense of humor along for the adventure by scheduling
plenty of downtime.
Stay Safe and Secure
Don’t be a target for thieves. Use safes in hotels
to protect valuables and important travel documents, like
tickets and passports. Don’t leave wads of cash
in your shorts on the beach while you frolic in the ocean.
Carry money with you smartly and, despite the love struck
smile on your face, try not to look like an easy mark
for criminals who prey on naive tourists.
Be a savvy traveler and watch out for your things and
each other as you travel in a new place. Don’t trade
romantic honeymoon days for hours of paperwork at a local
police station.
Is there a benefit in purchasing travel insurance?
Absolutely. In life, we never know what is going to happen.
Trip insurance offers you protection if you have to cancel
due to injury, sickness, or death to you, a traveling
companion, or immediate family member. It does not cover
unstable, pre-existing conditions. Additionally, it provides
emergency assistance while you are on your vacation.
